1. The Citadel of Aleppo
The Citadel of Aleppo is a popular citadel and fortress at Aleppo, Syria. It is one of the most amazing architectural works in the Middle East. The construction of the citadel started in the 10th century. Inside it are chambers to store supplies, mosques, wells and residences. There are also defensive installations inside it.
2. Great Mosque of Córdoba
The earliest parts of this great mosque were built on the grounds of a Christian church. It underwent many enlargements during the 9th and 10th centuries. The Dome of the Rock is located at Jerusalem, and is considered as the oldest Islamic monument known in the world. It was built around 691 to 692, around 55 years following the Arab conquest in Jerusalem. Its ornamentation and design originated from the Byzantine architectural traditions.
